Wednesday Review: SL Social Networking

ok so some of you may know (and most of you probably don’t know) that i am a nerd who enjoys joining social websites. even if i don’t do anything on them, i am all over the net, because it used to be a means of entertainment for me before i got on sl and now that i am on sl, it’s a way to keep in touch with the outside world XD

so of course there are sl social networking site! and i am probably on all of them if not most of them. so tonight *looks at clock* i plan to review social networking sites catering to second life users.

the first site on our list is second life profiles

this site is set up pretty much like myspace. customizable, blogs, photos,  comments etc. the profile is broken down into 2 seconds. first life, and second life. giving you a chance (if you want) to tell people about both your lives. the photos are also split like this which is kinda cool if you want to show people who you are in the real world

it’s down side is.. just like myspace, alot of it’s members are.. well… barbie dolls. which is ok, but… i get tired of the sparkley comments!

pardon that profile, i’ve not updated there in a LOONNNGGGG time.

this site is alot like the other site. typical sl myspace. the home page is a bit more interesting, giving you stats about who’s been looking at your page, as well as ratings on how hot you are (aparently i am only a 6??!!!?!?!) and info on new group posts, new friends blogs, etc. you have the ability to customize things on the page to a crazy degree. even adding new boxes to it as well as colour styles and what not. the photo section allows you to make albums whee!

on the down side.. again… sparkley comments from people.. as well as a freaking text limit on the about you section! UGH! i hate text limits!

the last profile site i’m going to hit tonight is a new one that i just joined after reading about it on ryker’s blog.

this site has already got my attention just by the fact that it is produced by aubreTEC Labs who happens to be one of the best defense creators in sl. (hello i love psitech)

beyond that, and my fangirling over the aubretech thing, this site is very nicely made. a good clean web 2.0 layout and it seems like so far the people who have joined are more of the intellegent sect of people

another cool point is that you have to register in world! very cool!

also albums and all that junk yadda yadda

it’s cool! lol

i have a half finished review that i need to finish before i can post it. so much for every wednesday eh?

just wanted to post right now to mark that today is my 10th month with lucas and i still wub him to pieces.

yes i know i mentioned in the last blog that i would review something every wednesday and yes that is still in the works, but thanksgiving was this week so i was busy.

lucas made awesome turkey hats and handed them out to the LuNi Designs Group. didn’t get one? well you have to be a member of our group, and the only way to be in there is to purchase something :p.

we had a lovely thanksgiving dinner and invited our friends but sadly only 2 of them could come. still we said what we were thankful for and then sat at the table with our animated forks and exchanged photos of us in our noob days. nada excluded since she was only noobish for an hour before i got on and bought her skin and stuff lol.

now that thanksgiving is out of the way i’m going to try and focus on making some new stuff for our store and hopefully we’ll have a shop or two in world in the near future.

also on the list for things to get, ram for my computer because i really wanna play with windlight :p

ok i think my resolution for the new year is going to be to make this blog not suck lol. yeah that probably won’t happen but i think i’ll try to post at least once a week.made the layout all wintery cause it’s getting cold out there.

we had a wonderful halloween party in october, which i forgot to blog about, so here’s photos from it:

windlight first look was opened to the public at the start of the week and wow is it cool…

unfortunately, using those sky settings lags my pc down to 1fps 🙁

and of course this is also a downer.. my laptop can’t even support shaders… so i get this:

anyway i’m not sure what else to write. got to go to irl work pretty soon.  i think i’ll do a review on wednesdays… that should get me blogging.

october and changes abound

i changed the blog layout to reflect the upcomming holiday season :p october is tomorrow and halloween is comming!

those who aren’t in the LuNi designs group may have noticed that our inworld location no longer exists. sadly this is due to a very good friend of mine, leaving second life. she sold her islands and so our shop is homeless at the moment. however, you can still find our products for sale on second life exchange. 😀

currently 2 new products made by lucas are selling very well:

both typing replacers feature the standard issue LD Sword 9mm glock and use unique animations! pick yours up today at LuNi Designs on SLX!

we’ll be back in world as soon as we can find a suitable location 🙂

so BAM! lucas and i went crazy on the 4th and bought a fireworks package that pretty much almost set nepenthe on fire lol




(apologies, the snapzilla photos aren’t as good as the flickr one there but i was too busy to take double copies of these…)

anyway so fireworks were awesome and lucas turned 1 year on sl 😀

the next night he got his rezday lapdance since we kinda passed out on eachother the night before

craziness.

i am working on a little build project slowly… it’s taking a bit of time because i am so exausted when i get off work so my brain is like “OH GOD NO MORE WORKIE!!!” and i just end up standing there while lucas builds X_x

i have no idea what to write about! grid is down for maintenance and i am playing god of war.

(and yes i changed the layout again.)

geeze time keeps flying and i’m having trouble keeping up with it.

today is lucas’ rez day 😀 amazing that we’ve both been around for a year on sl now!

it’s also july 4th which is actually the day i started really playing sl. before july 4th i would show up and camp a little and log out cause i really couldn’t think of anything to do on there lol but the 4th there was a shuttle launch and i decided to go watch it at the nasa center inworld. and that was the day i decided to start hanging around. i went to the angry ant and made some friends over the course of a couple of months (i make friends slow…) and now i’m married and have a store O_o. strange how times change.

not much else to talk about. working on some junk.

i downloaded the first look viewer after much internal debate with myself… my intention had been to check out windlight but to my dismay after i downloaded and installed the client i found that they had taken windlight out of the new first look viewer and put voice in… *pouts* so i missed out on playing with windlight.

from what i saw on the first look viewer, voice sucks… the new chat box they’ve made for it is kinda weird after being so used to having a seperate box for chat and im’s. also i do not have a mic and none of my friends are really interested in voice so blah. not worth it.

the playboy sim was very um.. interesting. i took a really nice shot on the beach there. they had little poseballs set up for you to do your own playboy shoots i guess lol

i also used that image to take a chance at working with some ideas on fuzzing out the backgrounds for some depth. i think it came out well except for a small spot that i flubbed up and didn’t realize until it was too late to fix it easily. but still, it’s a great shot 😀

so my rez day was pretty quiet *pouts* only a couple of people actually said anything, probably less would have noticed if i didn’t post it all over the place. ah well, i’m not a popular sl person anyway so blah :p

as a gift to me on my rez day lucas and i got properly partnered.

i guess we kinda eloped but we’re still planning to have a wedding type thing later on.

the update today really borked something and i spent a large quantity of the day bald with a box on my head because i could not face seeing my avatar with no hair lol

hopefully the day will improve :p

we’re going to check out the playboy sim tonight.. this should be interesting…
